READ THIS BEFORE BEGINNING INSTALLATION

When using the 49750AHP kit, the Red Eagle® friction plates and the Kolene® steel plates furnish a much shorter and firmer 2-3 shift. Vehicles that benefit from the 49750AHP kit include high performance, street rods, and race applications. Of course all of the below described durability and performance benefits are also achieved. VERY IMPORTANT: The 49750AHP kit performs very well in true Hi-performance applications but should not be installed in regular or heavy duty applications. Since the 2-3 shift will be significantly firmer with the 49750AHP kit, you may receive customer complaints with regular or heavy duty vehicles. To get the full benefits of these kits, please select the right kit.


DURABILITY AND PERFORMANCE BENEFITS OF THESE KITS ARE:

The extra capacity clutch setup in these kits offer a significant increase in overall durability and performance to avoid premature clutch element distress or burnup. This is accomplished by spreading the apply and holding energy loads over more friction plate surface area. The additional plates greatly increase the overall clutch pack resiliency which can be best described as having an increase in clutch pack accumulation. Therefore, the apply and release of the direct clutch will be much smoother. The increased holding power of the clutch kit also offers a notable increase in safety when the main line pressure cut back occurs in third and fourth gear. The clutch kits offer you the ability to confidently repair AOD transmissions in regular vehicle applications, as well as the heavy duty vehicles such as trucks, commercial vehicles, ambulances, and limousines.

INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS

WITH AN ORIGINAL FIVE FRICTION PLATE CAST IRON DRUM SETUP

You can build a SIX friction plate setup by installing SIX friction plates, SIX steel plates, and reinstalling the ORIGINAL thickness top backing plate. You can also build a SEVEN friction plate setup by installing SEVEN friction plates, SEVEN steel plates, and installing the .125" top backing plate furnished in the kit. NOTE: Building a SEVEN friction plate setup is highly recommended.

WITH AN ORIGINAL SIX FRICTION PLATE CAST IRON DRUM SETUP

You can build a SEVEN friction plate setup by installing SEVEN friction plates, SEVEN standard, thickness (.070") steel plates (2 furnished in kit), and reinstalling the ORIGINAL thickness top backing plate. You can also build an EIGHT friction plate setup by installing EIGHT friction plates, SIX steel plates (.060"), and TWO standard (.070") thickness steel plates along with the .125" top backing plate. NOTE: Building an EIGHT friction plate setup is highly recommended.

TECHNICAL DEPARTMENT COMMENTS

Through research and field studies, we found that these kits perform best if the clutch pack clearance is set to .025"-.035". Our studies have also found that many dimensional differences can exist in the two areas of overall piston heights and snap ring groove proximity. Upon clutch pack buildup, air-check the clutch pack several times to seat all the installed components. If you cannot achieve the recommended .025"-.035" of clutch clearance, you can intermix the different steel plate thicknesses and/or top backing plates between the original thickness plates to the .060" and .125" thickness plates furnished in the kits. You can also adjust the clearance by installing one of the selective top snap rings Alto has available. If you need to stack two steel plates together, place them at the bottom of the clutch pack. UNDER NO CIRCUMSTANCES should you ever stack two steel plates together and use them in place of the top backing plate! Presoak all the friction plates in ATF for fifteen minutes before final clutch pack assembly.
