Safety and Development Technical Assistant

Objective/Position Summary:
- Support efforts of the Safety Supervisor and Department Heads to maintain and improve Alto’s Safety Management System leading to a safe work environment for all Alto employees
- Assist the Friction Materials Development Group in the development of new friction formulations that meet the needs of our existing and future customer base

Responsibilities:
Safety
- Become knowledgeable of the Company’s Safety Management System
- Manage document and records controls that apply to Alto’s Safety Management System,
- Conducting routine Safety audits / inspections as assigned
- Obeying and enforcing Company Work Rules and Safety Rules.
- Maintaining safety and quality metrics, generating and distributing assigned
-Performing and / or coordinating routines Safety Risk Analyses
- Along with Area Owner, investigate safety Incidents to determine root cause and corrective actions
- Communicate, coach and assist Area Owners in their efforts to understand and meet safety requirements -Maintain our Hazardous Communications Program so that all chemicals in plant are properly labeled and hazards are communicated to users
- Support Safety Supervisor in routine safety training
- Become a qualified first aid responder
- Maintain and manage the Visitor & Contractor Training and record keeping
- Assist in the coordination of Emergency Evacuation plans and drills
- Assist in the preparation of monthly Safety Talks to include the review of any updates/changes and distribution to all locations
- General administrative support to the Safety Manager
- Must be able to occasional work off shifts

Friction Development
- Assist in the making friction hand sheets and saturation
- Conduct analytical tests as directed
- Help keep laboratory equipment in good working order
- Help keep lab and lab equipment clean and presentable
- Enter data in appropriate databases
- Perform miscellaneous duties and projects as assigned and required.

Education and/or Experience
- Minimum High school diploma, college degree preferred, but not required.
- Prior experience working in a facility with a good safety program is a plus
- Experience doing laboratory testing would be a plus

Physical Requirements
- Must to be capable of standing, sitting, bending and reaching throughout the day
- Comfortable in a lab or plant environment
